BOOKS A

Books A started in 1995 and celebrated fifteen years of the group in September 2010.  By then 167 books by over 140 authors have been read and discussed.  The programme for each year includes a diverse range of books including modern novels, classics, biographies, historical and travel books and even a science fiction recently.  This widens our knowledge of authors and subjects.  The local library provides a wide range of sets of books which are available to loan for the period or we obtain our own copy of the month’s choice.

Meetings are held at 2.30 pm on the second Monday of the month at members homes.  We take it in turns to choose and introduce a book.  Each member then gives their views and opinions of the book and a lively and stimulating discussion ensues.  The meeting ends with tea and biscuits and a friendly chat.  We contribute 30p each month towards host expenses and photocopying, etc.  The December meeting includes a a buffet luncheon to which we all contribute a dish.

At present the group of 12 members  is full but anyone interested can be placed on a waiting list.
