Books C

Books C started in January 2009. Since then the group has chosen a range of books, mostly 20th century novels, but some short stories and classics too.

We often use the library service for borrowing books for reading groups or may source our own copies for choices not listed on the library scheme. Some of the books chosen have been suggestions from a member but many are books that none of us has read but which we have chosen from the library list.

One member volunteers to introduce the book at each meeting and we always find a diverse range of views and have a lively discussion. Many of us joined the group to broaden our range of reading and we are managing to do this.

Meetings are held at 2pm on the fourth Thursday of each month at members' homes. We have a high attendance rate and have decided to limit the membership to 10 people. After discussing the selected book for that month we have tea and biscuits and a chat, often about what other books we are reading. We contribute 30p each month towards host expenses and administration such as photocopying, etc.
