Chess

The chess group was formed for members to enjoy a friendly game of chess each month. Our meetings are very informal and relaxed. We do not record our moves or analyse our games, except in the most superficial manner. We do not play competitive chess or keep records of the winners and losers. So any potential member should have no reason to feel under pressure, we are, in effect, all winners, playing interesting games of chess.

Before forming the group, the members had all lost touch with the game, having played little for the last 20 - 40 years or more. So we are always pleased to welcome anyone with any knowledge of the game from their younger days. We are pleased to welcome anyone wishing to join our sessions. Indeed, several recent new members recently joined without any knowledge of the moves and rules.

The members of the U3A Chess group have now been playing enjoyable and stimulating games since July 1995. All meetings are held in members' houses on the second Wednesday of each month starting at 2.00 pm.
