Computer Basic Skills
A new Computer Basic Skills Group was started, with Tony Houghton as co-ordinator on 12 March 2009, aimed at those who have limited hands-on experience of computing and who would like to learn initially the basics of getting on the Internet; sending and receiving emails; transferring photographs from a digital camera to view them on your PC, plus printing and sending them by email; and writing a letter using Microsoft Word.
Further skills that will be looked at are - the use of folders for storing information on you computer using Windows XP; using Microsoft Excel to run your own home accounts and how to access your bank safely online; how to produce a simple Power Point (slide) presentation; plus other areas that the Group members feel they would like to learn.
The Group meets in the E7 Computer Room at Emmbrook School at 3.30pm on the second Thursday of the month and at Woodley Age Concern when Emmbrook is closed for holidays. There are 4 members of the Group at the moment - May 09 - which is the maximum that Tony can cope with to give individual instruction. He plans to expand further once he has recruited other instructors to help him and will publish the date when this happens on this site and in the Newsletter
