Earth Sciences
Earth Sciences, a somewhat vague title, does not only study soil, the most vital material for life on the surface of our earth, but also geology and cosmology.
Most people are intrigued by the origins of life, the earth, the solar system, and possibly the universe.
In the Earth Sciences Group we attempt to understand their workings and sometimes explain their origins!
Talks range from "The Sun" to the discovery of the atom, or the atmosphere, to brickmaking.
Lectures and demonstrations are given by outsiders and U3A members.
Our group is very friendly and talks often end in vociferous discussion.
We try to go on a field trip each year. These have included, the Fusion Reactor at Culham, a brickworks, studying stone in local buildings, and behind the scenes at the Oxford Natural History Museum.
Meetings are 1st Thursday of the month at Woosehill Community Centre at 2.00 pm
