JAZZ APPRECIATION, Now three Groups "A" with Gordon Wall, "B" & "C" with Ken

The response to this group which was started in September 2004 has been amazing. Who would have thought that our U3A had so many 'cool cats' out there! There are 15 members in the group with an average attendance of 12. The majority of members are jazz fans, although we have a few who are learners.

We have no lack of presenters and during 2005 we have had presentations on The Dankworth Family, Lionel Hampton, George Shearing, Ragtime, and Ray Charles. We have also had programmes consisting of various performers entitled Little and Large and Two's Company.

To get everyone involved we had a Lucky Dip where members drew the name of a jazz standard out of the hat which they had to research and bring along recordings. In June we had a Midsummer Night's Theme evening at the home of one of our members. We spent a lovely warm night listening to cool jazz. What could be better! We meet on the Third Monday evening of the month, with the exception of September.

Group "C" also now started
