SPANISH IMPROVERS

The first meeting of this group was in January 2005. We have taken our studies from a number of different Spanish courses. We have listened to the tapes and have worked through lots of the activities from these courses. We have received help from a Spaniard and his English sife, a member of Wokingham U3A who comes from Madrid and from a professional lady, who is Columbian. Sadly some of the original members have felt unable to continue with us but we have gladly welcomed new members recently. This has meant that there are not too many of us so that we are able to continue to meet in our own homes. All members have made significant progress with their Spanish and look forward to improving it further in the future.

SPANISH INTERMEDIATE

This has been an interesting year for us. Some of the original members have stopped attending our meetings and a number of new people have joined us. Ian has continued to lead the group and has produced some thought provoking and entertaining material for us to study. We have tried to improve our listening skills by using tapes and videos. At one of our meetings we heard about Bolivia from a lady from that country. Recently we have started to read some short stories in Spanish with parallel translations, which have been edited by John R King. At present we are desparately trying to develop a new format for some of our meetings where there will be far more Spanish and a lot less English spoken. However, we expect to find this really dificult without a native speaker to guide us through our conversation.
