WRITING FOR PLEASURE

Our group has been running successfully for about ten years and last year we produced an anthology of our best work which was a mixture of stories, poetry and short essays.  None of us is qualified to teach, but we all share one common enthusiasm, we like to write.  We decide, democratically, what the next month’s topic will be and each month we are surprised and delighted with the variety of the pieces produced.

Recently I attended a U3A study day in London on creative writing. It was interesting to hear how other groups work and a number of useful ideas were exchanged. Consequently the members of our group have decided to change our present title from ”Poetry and Creative Writing” to “Writing for Pleasure” which describes perfectly what we do. The format each month will be the same and the given topic can be written as prose or poetry as before. From September the group will be listed in the programme under “Writing for Pleasure”. Meetings are held at 2.30pm on the second Wednesday of the month at 36, Windmill Avenue, Wokingham.
