WRITING FOR PLEASURE
Our group has been running successfully for about 14 years. None of us is qualified to teach, but we all share one common enthusiasm - we like to write.
We decide, democratically, what the next month's topic will be. To give an idea of the range of topics - some recent subjects have included: Water, Out of Reach, The Lottery Winner, Eavesdropping and a reply to a Lonely Hearts Ad
The work produced can be factual or fictional, prose or poetry, and each month we are surprised and delighted with the variety of the pieces produced.
Sometimes we choose something more specific, such as haiku for Christmas, or a piece in the style of a well-known writer. We all felt a little intimidated about this last topic, but were very pleased to discover that when the results of our labours were read out, every single piece was recognised immediately by at least one or two members of the group, which was immensely encouraging!
Meetings are held at 2.30pm on the second Wednesday of the month at members' houses.
