Group Description

Books A was started in September 1995 by a small group of dedicated readers.  During the past 20 years members have read and discussed nearly 250 books by over 200 authors.  We plan the calendar for the coming year by each member volunteering to choose a book, which they will introduce, for a particular month.  This programme includes a diverse range of books including modern novels, classics, and biographies.  This enhances our knowledge of authors and subjects.

Wokingham library provides a wide selection of book sets which are available through their Books Collection Service to loan for the period.  Occasionally we obtain our own copy of the month’s choice from bookshops, charity shops or online from Amazon.

Meetings are held at member’s homes.  After a lively and stimulating discussion on the month’s choice, tea and biscuits are served with time for a general chat.  We are an enthusiastic and friendly group of 12 with regular attendance.

A small sum is collected each month for occasional expenses and to cover the cost of the annual subscription for the Wokingham Book Group Collections Service.
