Started in 2012, this eclectic group meets on the third Monday of each month at 2:00pm, meetings rotating around members’ homes.
In the past we have sourced books fairly cheaply ourselves but are currently using Wokingham Library’s service for book groups. Titles can be suggested by any member and are agreed by the majority before being read and becoming the topic at one of our monthly meetings. As there are usually many views on any particular book there’s a lively discussion with a vote on the book. Tea and biscuits and a general chat follow. We also have a popular ‘travelling library’ which appears at each meeting, containing books not read by the group, but which members think might be, and usually are, of interest to someone else.
Since the group started we have read a wide range of books: Midnight’s Children (Salman Rushdie), The Woman in White (Wilkie Collins), The Kindness of Strangers (Kate Adie), A Spot of Bother (Mark Haddon), The Help (Kathryn Stockett) and many more. While everyone doesn’t enjoy every book we relish the discussion and company of others who share the same love of books and reading.
