The Natural History & Environment Group was set up in August 2009. The group endeavours to encompass as many aspects of natural history and environmental issues as possible, with the aim of exploring a general understanding of the natural world, especially as it impacts us within the Wokingham area.
Activities include visiting sites of special interest, such as nature reserves and museums, or leisurely walks in the countryside looking at, and where possible identifying, the things we see (access to a pub, or at least a cafe, is often a welcome inclusion). In the months when outdoor activities are less attractive we either listen to talks from members or specialist speakers (when we can get them) or get together for lively and informative discussions about topical wildlife issues or specific questions on topics raised by members.
We plan to meet once each month, although August and January may be excluded and additional days may be added for particular events. At the time of writing the group has a waiting list of sorts, i.e. we call those on the waiting list ‘associate’ members as they are invited to all our outdoor events, which is the majority, and any events where we hire a hall. It’s only meetings at people’s homes, usually winter events, that are restricted.
