Topics in the recent past have included: gas-lighting; propaganda and persuasion; nature vs nurture; false memory and recovered memories; dementia; happiness, and Maslow’s hierarchy of needs.
Each meeting lasts about two hours and a topic of interest is usually presented by one of our group (sometimes we find interesting videos to watch) and there is usually a lively discussion after the presentation, with a break for tea and biscuits. We are a relaxed and friendly group and none of us are experts on psychology, but we are all keen to learn more about the workings of the human (and animal!) brain. We choose our topics as a group based on what is of interest to us, and future topics are likely to include: personality disorders; the placebo effect; animal psychology; dyslexia; aggression and emotional intelligence.
You are welcome to come along and sample a session. Please contact the convenor to find out the location of the next meeting. Meetings are rotated between the homes of our members.
