Marcia originally trained as a nurse at Great Ormond Street and then later retrained as a Health Visitor. When she became a single mum with two small boys she trained yet again as a Further Education teacher doing her Open University degree in her spare time.
But Marcia had a secret ambition to do some Voluntary Service Overseas and when her boys were grown up she took what she calls a ‘gap year for grownups’ (unpaid leave of absence) and in 2008/2009 spent three months in Malawi and five months in Nepal.
She has been back to both countries three times since then and now supports orphanages and voluntary work in both countries.
Her talk will cover the country, geography, culture & customs of Malawi, outlining her role as a volunteer, teaching in a secondary school & helping at a day nursery.
