Date and time: January 21 from 2:30 pm until 4:00 pm

Trooper Fred Potts VC gained his VC in recognition of his deed in rescuing his wounded fellow Berkshire Yeoman, Trooper Arthur Andrews, from the battle field of Gallipoli over a 48 hour period 21-23rdAugust 1915. This was accomplished using a trenching shovel found on the battle field and so Fred became known as the ‘Hero with the Shovel’.

On 4 October 2015 a sculpture depicting the rescue by Liverpool sculptor Tom Murphy, was unveiled in The Forbury – Reading, along with a Roll of Honour to the 426 men of the Berkshire Yeomanry who gave their lives in the wars of the 20th Century.

The presentation by three members of the Trooper Potts VC Memorial Trust will tell the story of The Berkshire Yeomanry from the early days though to today.
